The EBLI Advantage
What is EBLI?
EBLI consists of research-based instructional strategies that are infused within the existing curriculum to provide a bridge connecting research-based literacy instruction THEORY to IMPLEMENTATION with students through classroom-level activities. The goal of EBLI is to assist learners of all ages to reach higher levels of reading in the shortest amount of time possible, resulting in measurable results.
- Whitehall Schools 4th grade MEAP results improved 30 points after 4 months of whole class instruction; East Jordan Schools 8th grade scores increased 27 points after 6 weeks of EBLI instruction.
- 25 6th graders from Quincy Schools increased reading comprehension an average of 4.2 grade levels after an average of 9.5 hours of EBLI instruction.
EBLI focuses on improving READING COMPREHENSION, SPELLING, and WRITING by providing instruction in the following areas:
- Phonics (a method of teaching reading in which people learn to associate letters with the speech sounds they represent, rather than learning to recognize the whole word as a unit.)
- Understanding the logic of the English code (sounds can be spelled with up to 4 letters, the same sound can be spelled in more than one way, often the same spelling represents different sounds)
- Multi-Syllable word reading/spelling strategies (breaking MS words into managable units)
- Fluency (intonation and speed of reading)
- Vocabulary (understanding the meanings of words)
Lack of understanding of the skills and concepts necessary to manage the English code and the resulting inability to read words accurately is the most common cause of comprehension difficulties.
"It is a priceless moment when students ask to do EBLI because they enjoy it so much and can see the difference it makes in their reading speed, fluency, and comprehension. Just a few hours of instruction changes their reading patterns for life! "
