EBLI Training
Course Description:
EBLI training provides instruction to teachers in several literacy components, focusing on word level instruction including phonemic awareness skills, phonics, and the concepts necessary to effectively manage the English code. Instruction in other areas crucial for comprehension such as fluency and vocabulary are included in the training. Instruction in spelling is explicitly taught and integrated throughout EBLI training. The focus will be on training staff to use these components for whole class, small group, and individual instruction and implementation and they will be taught how to use the strategies across the curriculum.
There will be opportunities for the staff to practice the strategies with each other during the training and to observe students being instructed in EBLI on video and/or in person.
Instructor: Nora Chahbazi, EBLI Developer
Instructional Method: Lecture, modeling of strategies by instructors then practice with other trainees, and observation of strategies used with students.

Course Objectives:
Through lecture, observation, and practice of strategies and activities, participants will be able to implement word level instruction, fluency, and vocabulary building with any age student. They will also be exposed to techniques in handwriting and cognitive processing to use with their students. The purpose of learning these strategies, activities, and interventions is for teachers to ultimately assist their students in improving their reading comprehension and overall academic performance.
“The EBLI reading strategies have been the answer to five years of searching for a system that could effectively and efficiently teach children to read.”
